Madonna has just adopted twin girls from Malawi
The Queen of Pop reportedly took her little girls, Stella and Esther, after the Malawian high court issued an official order of guardianship at a hearing.
Mlenga Mvula, a judicial spokesman, said: ‘I can confirm that Madonna has been granted an adoption order for two children.’
She went on to explain that Madonna ‘exuded happiness’ upon hearing the good news.
As well as being a mother to 20-year-old Lourdes and 16-year-old Rocco, Madonna previously adopted two children from Malawi – David Banda in 2006, and Mercy James in 2009.
According to reports the twin girls were adopted from the Home of Hope orphanage in Mchiniji, where their new brother David had lived.
Madonna set up her non-profit organisation, Raising Malawi, eleven years ago in a bid to help the country’s orphaned children, and according to Mvula she has since been involved in a lot more charitable work in the country.
‘Madonna has been very close to Malawi,’ Mvula said.
‘She has been involved in so many projects and is currently helping to expand the children’s ward at the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital. So Madonna has been coming to Malawi frequently. So it is not unusual to people in Malawi at all. They know Madonna very well in terms of the high-profile work she has done for the community.’
Madonna shut down rumours that she was planning to expand her family following a trip to Malawi last month, saying: ‘I am in Malawi to check on the children’s hospital in Blantyre and my other work with Raising Malawi, and then heading home… The rumours of an adoption process are untrue.’
Although the judge ruled in Madonna’s favour in the presence of the girls’ birth father, the adoption hinges on the condition that the singer can prove that she will provide a suitable home.
